Porcelain Veneers

Knightsbridge Dental Care was one of the very first dental practices in Britain to place porcelain veneers on teeth. Both Roman Franks and Alan Gold now have over 20 years experience of using the technique.

Thin veneers of porcelain that are individually fabricated by the best laboratory technicians are bonded onto the outside surfaces of the teeth with a very strong resin.

Outside the mouth porcelain veneers look like artificial finger nails. With veneers, not only can your teeth be made to look whiter but also crooked teeth can be straightened, gaps between teeth can be filled and short teeth can be made longer.

One of the main advantages of veneers is that very little, if any, tooth surface needs to be removed to prepare the teeth - the procedure is very conservative of tooth structure.

Roman Franks and Alan Gold have porcelain veneers bonded to their own upper front teeth - Alan’s fitted by Roman and Roman’s fitted by Alan!

Tooth Whitening

Tooth bleaching is a process used to lighten the colour of your natural teeth. It is entirely safe (it does NOT remove any tooth tissue), the only side effect being that it can sometimes make your teeth sensitive to temperature changes – this ALWAYS wears off after a few days.

The procedure can be performed entirely in the surgery (power/laser bleaching) or it can be performed by you in your home, using materials provided by us. Independent research in America has shown that home bleaching works better than power/laser bleaching. It is also considerably cheaper!

Before you embark on home bleaching, we provide you with a custom mouth tray. The custom tray is a critical component of the treatment. It ensures that the correct amount of whitening solution is used and that your teeth are properly exposed to the whitening solution. The tray is very small (just covering the teeth) and it is only necessary to wear it for a few nights.

Although tooth whitening is not permanent, results can last for several years and as long as you keep the custom tray it can be topped up at minimal cost.

White Fillings

At Knightsbridge Dental Care we only fill teeth with white filling materials. We have not used sliver amalgam (which contains mercury) for many years. Not only does a white material improve the appearance of a filling but it also eliminates any health risks associated with the mercury in silver amalgam.

fillings

We use two basic types of white filling material: Composite Resin and Glass Ionomer Cement. Both are tooth coloured filling materials that are either bonded or adhere to the tooth and therefore require minimal, if any, tooth preparation (drilling). We are strong advocates of what is called Minimally-Invasive Dentistry.
